Hotel Edelweiss is a medium size customer friendly hotel in one of Sovata’s beautiful valleys, about one km away from the touristic centre of the city. Nestles on the edge of the forests in the foothills of the Carpatians in Transilvania. Sovata itself grew up around a heliothermal lake, called Bear Lake ( very good for swimming ) the only one of its kind in Europe and the largest in the world. Its water and sapropelic mud are famed for their healing properties. There are reputed to help against gynaecological and rheumatoid ailments. The main street of Sovata has beautifull, old wooden villas, many terraces and every day markets in summer. Sovata has his own downhill ski course and ski-lift. From the hotel you can make beautifull trips into the Carpathians.
At the nearby village of Praid the salt layers rises sufficiently close to the surface to be mined. The salt mines are open to visit and has a separate part what is used as an underground sanatorium for asthma patient.
Corund, about 20 minutes from Sovata, is a folk art village with his own pottery, woodcraft and matting.
